How Can a Busy Lawyer Do a Good Job?

lawyer busy

Our office handles Mississippi Workers' compensation claims like a team sport.   The attorneys at Chhabra and Gibbs are all experienced when it comes to pursuing injured workers in Mississippi. We are busy lawyers for two reasons-- 1. We can't stand to see injured workers treated unfairly, and 2. we are good at what we do.  You want your lawyer doing the "lawyering", because that is what they know--- whether that be in the courtroom advocating for injured workers, participating in depositions, or drafting motions and briefs that bring attention to their client's issues.  This means that your attorney is  not...

How Your Case Can Be Affected By Social Media

social media

Social media can affect your case in many ways. Imagine that you are unloading your groceries and you see a strange man in the bushes holding a video camera.  He quickly walks to his van as soon as the two of you make eye contact.  For many years insurance companies have been hiring private investigators to follow injured workers in hopes of “catching” them doing something their doctor has told them not to do or doing something that they state causes them pain.  Even something innocent can be mis-characterized by a private investigator.  Some insurance companies still use this tactic.  Injured...

I Was in an Accident, Now What?

car accident

Many of our clients come to us several months or even years after their accident and when we ask them for certain information they respond that they didn’t know that they needed to (or not do) that. Here are the top 5 steps that people should take in personal injury cases: Do get medical treatment. This is perhaps the most important aspect of your claim. It is crucial that you seek medical treatment as soon as possible, even if you do not have health insurance. It is difficult to show an adjuster that you were seriously injured in an accident...

You Are Your Best Advocate

advocate

You are your best advocate when it comes to your injury case. Don’t get me wrong, finding an Injury attorney you trust that has experience with our workers’ compensation system is the first step to making one of the most difficult periods in your lives a lot easier. If you are like the vast majority of Mississippians you won’t know a thing about workers’ compensation until you or someone you love gets hurt. Being injured at work is a scary and (more often than it should be) difficult process. Having someone on your side that knows the law and how it...

I Want My Case Settled Today

case settle

Settle my case today I am often asked how long it will take to settle a workers compensation or personal injury case. Recently I had a phone call with a prospective client here in Mississippi who was not very nice to our staff members who were trying to help him.  Our staff members were trying to get information to set up the file so one of our Chhabra & Gibbs, P.A. Injury lawyers could review it, but the prospective client insisted that he talk to the Injury lawyer right now and that he was not interested in dragging this out and...

Should I just settle With the Insurance Company?

insurance company

Settle with the insurance company? Many Workers Compensation and Personal Injury cases in Mississippi are settled everyday with no lawyer involvement between an injured person and an insurance adjuster. It makes me cringe to know how easy it is to get good advice from a very skilled and experienced Injury lawyer before signing on that dotted line, yet still people just want to get it over with. I get it. You may be thinking: An Injury lawyer will take most of the money An Injury lawyer probably can't get more for you after fees You don't want to have to go to...

More than a Fighter

Fighter

When people search for a Workers Compensation or Personal Injury lawyer, especially in Mississippi, they are laser focused on getting someone who is a fighter for them.  It is a statistical fact that many people do not trust Injury lawyers.  They think Injury lawyers will take money under the table in a heartbeat to line their own pockets.  The public even think Injury lawyers will tell self-serving lies.  But if a person thinks they've got a fighter type of an Injury lawyer they will hold their nose and tolerate smell of mistrust.   It doesn't have to be this way.  Just like...

Drivers could soon submit phones to a Textalyzer

Distracted Drivers

A new device could soon be used by your local Mississippi law enforcement that is known as the breathalyzer for texting by distracted drivers. Due to a growing epidemic of car accidents caused by distracted drivers, a company is developing a device that reveals whether drivers were texting at the time of the crash. New York aims to be the first state which passes a bill authorizing police to use the Textalyzer device, with New Jersey, Tennessee, and Chicago to follow. This will become a big help for law enforcement because right now the only way police can find out if a...

Roundup Weed Killer Leads to Cancer

Roundup Practice Area Mass Tort

Roundup Weed Killer has been linked to risk of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma as well as other cancer side effects. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) released a report in March 2015, which concluded that glyphosate, which is the active ingredient in Roundup, is linked to cancer. The IARC report also linked four other pesticides that were shown to cause cancer. Other studies published in the United States and other countries linked Roundup and cancer together as well. Starting with 2001 in the Canadian Study, then the U.S. Study, and in 2008 in the Swedish Study. All of these publications found that the...
