Background Camp Lejeune is a Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. From 1953 to 1987, Camp Lejeune’s tap water system was seriously contaminated. Base personnel and their families bathed in, and ingested tap water contaminated with dangerous chemicals at levels from 240-3400 times higher than allowed by applicable safety standards.
