I Want My Case Settled Today
Settle my case today
I am often asked how long it will take to settle a workers compensation or personal injury case. Recently I had a phone call with a prospective client here in Mississippi who was not very nice to our staff members who were trying to help him. Our staff members were trying to get information to set up the file so one of our Chhabra & Gibbs, P.A. Injury lawyers could review it, but the prospective client insisted that he talk to the Injury lawyer right now and that he was not interested in dragging this out and that he wanted his settlement immediately. Talking to the Injury lawyer right now is fine, and in most cases I will do my best to make it happen. But it sure is a lot easier when I have basic information about the case so that I can spend the majority of my time giving advice rather than information hunting.
The fact that he was rude to staff members is understandable. We help injured people in Mississippi every day. They go through financial struggles. They endure severe pain. And often they suffer from relationships that are falling apart because they are grumpy from the pain and medication. We understand and we sympathize. We are here to help and we know this may be the most difficult thing you have ever gone through.
So even though this client wasn’t willing to cooperate with our process to gather information and give advice, I wanted to show him that we cared. I called him from my cell phone while I was on the road so that he would have the immediate access he requested. I spent significant time getting information from him. I got enough to have an idea of what his case value was likely going to be. He already had an offer from the insurance company for $25,000. Frankly, I thought his case was worth about 10 times that amount. After repeatedly telling me he only wants me if I can guarantee that the case will be settled immediately (which no lawyer can honestly do), I cut to the chase. I said “Sir, if you had your choice between $25,000 today and $200,000 next year, which would you prefer?” He said “$25,000 today.” I said “Sir, I am not the Injury lawyer best suited for you and I wish you the best.”
If you want a quick cheap settlement that doesn’t come close to compensating you for your loss, many insurance companies will offer just that. But if you really want solid advice on what your case is worth, and a realistic strategy and timeline for how maximum value will be achieved without it taking “forever,” call the Mississippi Workers Compensation and Personal Injury lawyers at Chhabra & Gibbs, P.A. for a free consultation today by dialing 601-948-8005.
