Immigrants Entitled to Same Rights When Hurt at Work
The Mississippi Workers Compensation Act clearly states that “aliens…shall be entitled to the same amount as provided for residents.” Our Personal Injury Law Firm has represented many undocumented workers’ over the years. A large number of undocumented workers were scared to even come to us because they were afraid they could not make a Workers Compensation claim or having a claim would result in deportation. There is no reason to fear. Immigrants are entitled to the same Workers’ Compensation benefits as a United States citizen when hurt at work, and there is no law in the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Act that provides for deportation. The legal status of an immigrant is between ICE and immigrant, and not something that the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation system gets involved in.
If you are or know of an immigrant legal or not who has been hurt at work, please call our office. We have staff that speaks English, Spanish, and Punjabi. We will be glad to consult with you in private and confidentially about what your rights are and what we can to help you through a very tough situation.
If you have been injured on the job in Mississippi regardless of your legal citizenship status, talk to an experienced Mississippi Workers’ Compensation lawyer in this field and see what your options are. It is always free to call Chhabra & Gibbs, P.A. or the CG Immigration Team at 601-948-8005.
