Michael P. Gorden

Michael P. Gorden is an associate attorney at Chhabra, Gibbs & Gustavis, P.A. He represents injured workers in workers’ compensation claims and people hurt in car wrecks, 18-wheeler crashes, and other accidents. He joined the firm in 2023 and works from the firm’s Jackson office.

Michael serves as chair of the Minority Caucus of the Mississippi Association for Justice and as chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Magnolia Bar Association.

Before joining the firm, Michael was a staff attorney for Seventh District Circuit Court Judge Tomie Green from 2019 to 2021. He has served as an appointed public defender for indigent criminal defendants in Hinds County Circuit Court and Byram Municipal Court. His chancery work includes probate estates, deeds, wills and other estate-planning documents, child custody, child support, visitation, and conservatorships and guardianships under Mississippi’s GAP Act. He has also negotiated and reviewed recording agreements for artists signed to labels such as Def Jam and Universal Music Group.

Michael is from Stone Mountain, Georgia. He graduated cum laude from Jackson State University in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and a minor in Political Science. At JSU he made the Dean’s List from 2013 to 2016, served as Student Government Association Vice-President for 2014–2015, and joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2019 and was a 2018 Peggy Browning Fellow. In law school he was a member of the Black Law Students Association (Constance Slaughter-Harvey Chapter), Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity (Lamar Chapter), and the Public Interest Law Foundation.

Michael was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 2020 and is admitted to practice in all Mississippi state courts, including the Mississippi Supreme Court, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. He is a member of the Leadership Mississippi Bar Class of 2025.

Michael also handles workers’ compensation appeals for injured workers in the Mississippi Court of Appeals. In Thompson v. Boyd Biloxi, LLC, he represented a casino dealer with a shoulder injury in a dispute over whether her claim was filed in time. In Thomas v. Nissan North America, Inc., he represented a worker in a dispute over how much his injury affected his ability to do his job and earn a living.
