New Albany Car Wreck Lawyer: What Rights Do Families Have After the Highway 30 Crash?
  |    |
Última modificación el 7 de octubre de 2026

A New Albany car wreck lawyer can help families understand their rights after the deadly Highway 30 crash. Families who lose someone in a Mississippi wreck may have a wrongful death claim. Passengers often have rights no matter which driver caused the crash. When a work truck is involved, the company’s insurance and records matter too.

If you or a loved one was hurt, call CGG Law at 601-948-8005 for a free consultation. Early help protects evidence.

What Happened in the Highway 30 Crash Near New Albany?

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said an SUV and a large truck collided on Highway 30. New Albany’s fire chief said rescue crews got the call at 8:55 a.m. for a wreck on Highway 30 West, just past County Road 64.

Two people in the SUV died at the scene, MHP said. They were 57 and 42, and both lived in New Albany. Medics took the truck driver to a hospital with injuries. The fire chief said crews airlifted one injured person from the scene to Tupelo.

The New Albany Gazette reported that the truck was a beverage company’s box truck and that the crash was head-on. The paper noted that officials had not confirmed those early reports. MHP is investigating and has not released a cause.

Who Can Bring a Wrongful Death Claim in Mississippi?

Bajo Miss. Code § 11-7-13, the people who may file usually include a spouse, children, parents, or siblings. A claim can seek funeral costs, medical bills, lost support, and the loss of a loved one’s companionship.

Most wrongful death claims must be filed within three years under Miss. Code § 15-1-49. Claims against government entities carry much shorter notice rules under § 11-46-11. Exceptions may apply, so families should not wait to get advice. Our Mississippi wrongful death lawyer page explains more.

What Rights Do Passengers Have?

A passenger usually did nothing to cause a crash. So a passenger’s family may have a claim even if the passenger’s own driver made a mistake. Several insurance policies may apply. These can include each driver’s liability coverage and uninsured or underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. Mississippi’s minimum limits are low, so UM/UIM coverage often matters a great deal. Our Abogado especializado en accidentes automovilísticos Mississippi page covers these insurance questions.

Mississippi follows modified comparative fault under Miss. Code § 11-7-15. A person can recover if their share of fault is not more than 50 percent. Any award then shrinks by that share. Insurers often use this rule to shift blame, so the facts need careful review.

Why Does a Commercial Truck Change the Investigation?

Employees often drive delivery trucks on the job. When that is true, the company and its insurer may answer for the driver’s conduct. Depending on the truck’s size and use, federal safety rules may also apply. Those rules cover driver hours under 49 CFR Part 395 and inspection and maintenance under Part 396.

Box trucks can also hold valuable data. Many carry GPS trackers, dash cameras, and engine modules that record speed and braking. Route schedules, driver files, and repair logs can show what happened that morning. Our Mississippi truck accident lawyer page covers these claims in depth. Why Talk to a New Albany Car Wreck Lawyer Early?

Evidence fades fast after a crash. Tow yards store wrecked vehicles for a short time before salvage. Companies may record over camera footage within days. Electronic data can vanish once a truck goes back into service.

A New Albany car wreck lawyer can send preservation letters right away. Those letters ask the company to keep the truck, its data, and its records. Early help also keeps grieving families from giving recorded statements to insurers before they know their rights.

What Should Families Do Now?

First, ask MHP for the crash report number. Next, keep every medical bill, funeral receipt, and insurance letter. Write down the names of witnesses and first responders. Find out where both vehicles were towed. Don’t sign anything or give a recorded statement to an insurer before getting legal advice.

We are deeply sorry for the families who lost loved ones on Highway 30. We hope everyone injured recovers fully, and we thank the firefighters, medics, flight crew, and troopers who responded.
