Thursday evening Chhabra & Gibbs P.A. hosted an event for Jackson Water Lawsuit with attorney Corey Stern. The event took place at the Mississippi Children’s Museum in Jackson and hosted around 1,800 children and parents. The purpose of the event was to give an update on the case.
In 2014 the city of Jackson changed its water system from well water to surface water which includes water from nearby lakes, rivers, and streams. As a result, many children were exposed to lead poisoning by drinking, bathing, and eating food that was cooked with the contaminated water. between 2014-2016. In 2015 the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality reported that 22% of Jackson homes drinking water had contained enough lead that it surpassed the dangerous level of 15 parts per billion.
As a result of the lead exposure, children have demonstrated signs and symptoms of lead poisoning which include learning difficulties, developmental delay, seizures, hearing loss, abdominal pain, irritability, loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting, constipation, sluggishness, and fatigue, and eating things that are not food.
