Moms are Superheroes

Super Mom

Are you are a working mom? Do you have one or multiple children?

Being a mom that works is hard especially when you have multiple children. Being a working mom in Mississippi doesn’t mean you’re made of money either. In fact, Mississippi is the 2nd lowest paid state. Daycare alone can take up a check without even thinking twice about it. What can you do? You have to be paid to work right? Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like it is worth having a job. I can all too well relate this. Being a mom is probably the most demanding job out there. We have one demanding job at home and one demanding job at work. Then just throw all those extracurricular activities our children have in there as well. I am exhausted just thinking about it. We as moms are superheroes to our kids. We come home from work cook, clean, and do laundry. Don’t get me started on homework.

What if one day on the job you were injured? Of course our superhero nature is to put a Band-Aid on it and move along. Moms don’t get sick and certainly not injured right? What happens a couple of days later and that same knee you injured at work is causing a lot of pain. The number one job we have is taking care of our children. We do that by working, but now this injury is starting to take over our lives. You start thinking back to this injury and wonder what can be done now? Maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t say anything. You may have been fired for reporting the injury or filing a Workers’ Compensation claim. Although being fired for filing a Workers’ Compensation claim would be unfair, Mississippi is a fire “at will” state. They can fire us for no reason. Now that you are in pain, do you report the injury? The injury should have been reported to the supervisor immediately. After the injury is reported, what is the next step? Seek medical attention immediately. When seeking medical attention you should let the physician know it is a work related injury. I know that we have busy lives around work and home, but reporting the injury and filing a claim sooner is better. I wish I could say that all Workers’ Compensation is going to do right and give what is needed. However, that is not always the case. When found in this situation, search for an attorney who handles Workers’ Compensation.

How are you as a working mom going to be able to afford an attorney? You are already barely getting by. What you and many others don’t know is that there are lawyers out there who will help. Many attorneys will take your case without a fee upfront. In fact, most don’t get paid unless you do. This sounds too good to be true, right? There are so many people and moms out there who are injured on the job every day. They didn’t know that they could be entitled to benefits. Just like you they didn’t report it because they were scared of being fired, or worried about money hiring an attorney. Of course being a mom is the most rewarding and important job. You doing your daily work job is just as important. Being able to provide for our children is a good feeling. Don’t let that change because you were injured on the job. No one wants to be injured on the job, but there are steps we can take to help us in the process.

In the meantime, put that cape on and keep being a super hero mom.
