Mississippi Fireworks Safety Tips

Firework Safety

Many people go to the emergency room every year with fireworks-related injuries on July the 4th in Mississippi. More than half of these injuries are burns, and roughly one-third of them are to the hands and fingers. Another nearly twenty percent of injuries are to the face, eyes and nose.

Here are some fireworks safety tips in Mississippi to keep in mind for you and your loved ones when dealing with fireworks. Prevent fireworks injuries and death by following the firework safety tips below.:

  • Never allow young children to light fireworks or otherwise play with fireworks.
  • Read the warning labels on your fireworks. You may be surprised to know some recommended activities or things that you should not do.
  • Be sure that an adult is always present, even when children are only playing with sparklers—they can burn too!
  • Avoid mixing alcohol and fireworks.
  • Only light one firework at a time and then move away quickly. Never let fireworks shoot off from your hand or while you are holding a bottle or other container.
  • Never use fireworks indoors or in a vehicle. Steer clear of buildings and vehicles.
  • Always have a bucket of water and a water hose nearby in case of an emergency.
  • Never carry fireworks in your pocket.
  • Prevent trash burns by dipping each firework in water prior to discarding it to ensure that it is no longer burning.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • You should also be sure that fireworks are legal in your local area prior to purchasing and using them.

Keep your Fourth of July happy and fun by avoiding unsafe behaviors around fireworks. If you or a loved one has been injured by someone’s careless use of fireworks, you may have a legal claim.
